Reform of unemployment insurance: the duration depends on the economic context

In this context, the duration of rights will be reduced by 25% for people who benefit from unemployment. In short, if you were entitled to 24 months of compensation before the implementation of the unemployment insurance reform, you have, from February, “only” 18 months.
Only for newly unemployed
Unemployment insurance: on the other hand, it should be noted that this reform unemployment insurance will only concern new unemployed. Indeed, the reduction in the duration of compensation will affect French people registered with Pôle emploi and who have had an end of professional activity from February 1, 2023.
In addition, if you started a dismissal procedure before February 1, 2023, you will not be affected by the unemployment insurance reform.
Be aware that a minimum floor of six months has been put in place for the rights period. Thereby, the impact of the news measure will only be seen from this summer, on August 1, 2023.
Exceptional cases
The decree also mentions the specific cases of entertainers, fishermen and also dockers. The latter are not affected by the unemployment insurance reform.

Decree will end on December 31, 2023. Until that date, the social partners will have to negotiate among themselves to put in place new rules from January 1, 2024.
