The unemployment rate in the Ñuble region does not decrease, despite the seasonal factor, since it reached 9.1% in the December-February quarter, according to the INE, which represents no variation compared to the same period of the year. last year, although it showed an increase of 0.4 points compared to the previous moving quarter (November-January).
The high figure compared to previous summers is explained, in part, by the lower dynamism of the labor market, particularly in the forestry and agricultural sector, as well as by the entry of more people into the workforce.
The unemployment rate for women in the region reached 9.6%, decreasing by 1.4 points in twelve months; while, unemployment for men stood at 8.7%, registering an increase of 0.9 points.
Along these lines, the unemployed in the region totaled 22,361, which represents an increase of 1.3% in 12 months, and also, an increase of 5.7% compared to November-January 2024.

In twelve months, the estimate of the total number of employed people in the region increased 1.5% (3,360 people), from 220,750 in December-January 2023, to 224,110, influenced by the increase in women (7.2%) . Meanwhile, men decreased 2.4%.
According to the INE, the behavior of the employed was mainly explained by the increases in the commerce (14.0%), health (35.9%) and construction (4.5%) sectors. On the other hand, agriculture, with a drop of 8.4%, represented the main decrease in regional employment.
Meanwhile, the informal employment rate stood at 35.4%, registering a decrease of 0.3 points in twelve months.
Complex recovery
In this regard, the Minister of Economy, Erick Solo de Zaldívar, commented that “2023 was a complex year in terms of productive recovery, without a doubt it affected the issue of natural disasters, both in terms of fires and floods. ”.
“In terms of support instruments alone,” the Seremi continued, “we have given an incentive to more than 800 companies that were affected, many of them in the agricultural sector. So, I would observe this figure with restraint, understanding that it was a complex year, that we are emerging from the difficulties that we faced in terms of natural disasters, but also with optimism in terms of what we are developing. I am certain that, based on the public investment that we are going to develop, especially in terms of public works, they will have a positive impact on employment, since it was announced that, based on the MOP investment of $168,000 million for this year “We are going to generate more than a thousand jobs in the region.”
