As the season wore on, undrafted rookie kicker Blake Grupe scored the deciding field goal for the New Orleans Saints in the preseason match once morest the Kansas City Chiefs.
He then allowed himself to be duly celebrated by his teammates and the fans. The three points from the field goal from 31 yards away secured the Saints victory over the Chiefs around superstar Patrick Mahomes.
According to ESPN, however, there was an incident following the game. According to this, the 24-year-old group wanted to leave the stadium through the players’ exit regarding an hour following the celebrations, but was said to have been stopped by security staff.
They mistook him for a fan who didn’t have permission to enter the player’s area. After a clarifying conversation, however, the kicker was let go and was able to head home relaxed.
Particularly curious: According to his own statement, the rookie was stopped before the game when he entered the field and asked whether he had accreditation to enter the interior. After declaring himself, the new player for New Orleans was allowed onto the field.
But even his game-winning performance didn’t seem to have garnered Grupe a higher profile.
Part of the reason security didn’t recognize Blake Grupe as a player is probably primarily because he’s a rookie. In addition, there is the fact that the Missouri-born player, who is 1.70 m and weighs 71 kg, does not have the classic football dimensions.
If he continues to perform like this then the stadium staff should be able to see his face on their screens.
The Saints around Quarterback Derek Carr got off to a good start in the game once morest the Chiefs and are already leading 17-0 in the early stages of the second quarter. On the other hand, the Chiefs got off to a bad start and didn’t score their first touchdown until midway through the second quarter under backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
Meanwhile, NFL MVP Mahomes sat on the bench following a brief stint and watched his Chiefs put on an impressive 24-0 run to lead by seven points with just over six minutes left.
After another touchdown by the Saints, Blake Grupe’s time came at the end of the game: The undrafted rookie used the try like an old hand and helped the Saints to victory.
The Chiefs have two more preseason games to play before starting the new NFL season on September 7 once morest the Detroit Lions. The Saints of New Orleans also have two games to play before taking on the Tennessee Titans in the first game of the regular season on September 10th.
