West Nile virus is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. In the majority of cases, it is asymptomatic but it is nonetheless dangerous. What do we know regarding this disease?

Discovered in Uganda in 1937, West Nile virus is carried by birds and transmitted to humans through mosquito bites.
This illness causes flu-like symptoms. In the most serious and rare cases, neurological complications may appear.
A seasonal illness
The infection is asymptomatic for 80% of people who contract the virus, which can make it dangerous.
The symptomatic forms of the disease are characterized by the sudden appearance of a high fever following 3 to 6 days of incubation. This fever is accompanied by headache and back pain, muscle aches, cough, swollen glands in the neck, and often a rash, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and symptoms respiratory.
