The carrying out of a mosquito control operation at the request of the ARS, during the month of September in a district of St-Girons, raises questions. Operation which requires, 24 hours in advance, the information of the local residents concerned by a letter in the mailboxes – some have indicated that they did not receive the information within the allotted time frame. The subject was raised at the end of the municipal council meeting on September 26, with Jean-Noël Vigneau explaining that “as mayor, I only have very limited information, in dribs and drabs. The zoning was sent to us at the very last moment. If residents have questions, they should contact the ARS and the prefecture”.

In fact, these mosquito control operations are triggered when a case of dengue / chikungunya / zika type illness is detected: the presence of the tiger mosquito, vector of the disease, around the patient can lead to the contamination of its neighbors (in a radius of 150 m).

Probably for reasons of confidentiality, the precise location of the streets processed is not revealed by the ARS. On the other hand, many agencies do not hesitate to communicate, particularly via local media, to inform of the holding of an operation in this or that city, without going into detail. This was not the case for St-Girons. Contacted by us at the beginning of the week, ARS Occitanie has not yet responded to our questions regarding the communication protocol.
