2023-10-24 06:26:46

Symptoms of B12 deficiency are often concentrated not only in the limbs, but can also occur on the lips.

Unpleasant signs

B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for nervous system and brain function. Symptoms associated with deficiency are varied. According to general practitioner Igor Lyubavin, the simplest first signs are frequent tingling in the limbs due to nerve damage.

The B vitamin group is involved in skin regeneration, so signs such as chronic chapped lips also indicate an underlying deficiency.

The doctor recalled that a lack of B vitamins, especially vitamin B12, causes cracked lips that are difficult to heal. Angular cheilitis (jams) is a severe and very uncomfortable condition of the lips in which cracks and ulcers appear on the skin at the corners of the mouth due to vitamin B deficiency.

Other signs in the mouth that signal a potential deficiency may include swelling and bleeding of the gums.

How to Avoid B12 Deficiency

To avoid vitamin B12 deficiency, the doctor advised eating enough meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products and eggs. In case of severe deficiency, supplements or injectable forms of the vitamin may be used, but only if prescribed by a doctor.
