For the few 400,000 owners in Brussels, it’s the cold shower. Their warning-excerpt from the roll shows them a much higher sum than in other years for the property tax.

But why is the increase so high this year? First, each year the FPS Finances indexes the cadastral income for all taxpayers in the country. In general, this indexation is 1 to 2.5%. This year, it reaches more than 9% because of inflation.
Second, a municipal and regional tax is levied. In the current economic climate, to replenish the coffers, eight Brussels municipalities had to increase the additional centimes to the property tax.
