On November 29, 2023, Prof. Dr. Yong Phuworawan, Head of the Center of Specialization in Virology Department of Pediatrics Clinic Faculty of Medicine Chulalongkorn University posted on Facebook Yong Poovorawan stating…

COVID-19 tends to increase seasonally.

When COVID-19 is a seasonal disease It is very similar to the flu. They can be found throughout the year. But it is found more seasonally. The first period will be found during the first semester or the rainy season. This is the period with the most outbreaks of the year. Between June and August then gradually decreased And it will come once more in the winter or the second semester of students in December and January and will decrease following February. In the summer, Covid-19 will subside and then start once more in June next year. It will be the same cycle as influenza.

Eventually, the disease will resemble the flu. The severity of the disease will be similar and over time it may decrease less than the flu. Because there are still clearly separated strains of influenza. Then change the genetics little by little. For example, influenza A has 2 types, H1N1 and H3N2, and influenza B. As for COVID-19, there is only one type and it mutates little by little, like influenza.

When the severity of the disease decreases, it is not like in the first stage or the first year where there is a high rate of lung infection and death. This is because the majority of the population has immunity from the vaccine. and from infection Further vaccines are therefore needed only in vulnerable groups. And the season for giving should be before the pandemic or before the start of the school year for students. In healthy children or young people of working age who are in good physical condition. Most already have some immunity from past vaccines and have been infected. Even if there is reinfection, the severity will decrease.

Therefore, as previously said, when the severity of the disease decreases to a certain level, it will be similar to the flu. Strategies for care, practice, control and disease prevention are not very different from influenza.
