Understanding the New Strategy for Covid-19 Immunity and Vaccination: Expert Insights and Recommendations

2023-12-03 14:26:20

Covid-19 cases are on the rise once more. From the point of view of collective immune defense, according to the president of the Federal Commission for Vaccinations Christophe Berger, the current wave is, to a certain extent, welcome.

The current resurgence is under control, specifies Christophe Berger in the NZZ am Sonntag this Sunday. If he deplores the cases of illness, he emphasizes that this wave is in some way part of the concept of the current immunization policy. The aim of this is to avoid serious and fatal cases linked to the coronavirus.

This winter, vaccination is therefore recommended only for people at risk of severe infection, that is to say people aged 65 or over, or suffering from certain chronic illnesses.

New strategy in the face of Covid-19

For the rest of the population, no vaccination is recommended. It only offers weak and short-term protection once morest mild forms, explains the Federal Office of Public Health on his website.

According to experts, cited by the German-speaking press, due to previous contaminations or vaccinations, nearly 98% of the population already has antibodies.

According to Christophe Berger, it is important that this basic immunity persists, no longer thanks to vaccination but to contamination.
