Several American media outlets are reporting cases of dogs who died following contracting a mysterious illness. Dogs in Canada might be affected. Should we be worried?

Listen to Dr. Raymond Plasse, veterinarian and owner of the LaSalle veterinary hospital, speaking to host Louis Lacroix.

In his practice, Dr. Plasse has not had any such cases to treat in recent weeks, but he confirms 200 cases in California.

“The concern does not come from the fact that we have a huge number of cases, it is rather that we do not know at all what causes this famous mysterious disease,” he said.

“Obviously, Scalded Cat fears cold water, especially in the last few years of COVID which made people a little nervous regarding respiratory illnesses. Dogs and cats are part of the family now. Right now, I don’t think people need to be overly concerned. The fact remains that, just like humans, animals catch diseases because they are in closer contact.”

He emphasizes that contact, such as dog parks or grooming salons, can help the spread of certain diseases.
