With the year ending a few weeks away, most people are getting ready to receive the Christmas holidays, which represents the Catholic religion. However, it begins with the Advent Wreath, used by believers in the Middle Ages, and currently it is common to see it on the door of the house or on the table.
WHAT DOES THE ADVENT WREATH MEAN?
Three priests named Silverio Osorio, Aguilar and Víctor Jiménez used their social networks to explain to Catholics the meaning of the Advent Wreath and how this representation prepares us to celebrate the arrival of the Child Jesus. Below, we detail the elements that make up the crown:
Circular shape: The circular shape serves to represent the love of God that is eternal, without beginning and without end. Furthermore, it shows us that our love for God and neighbor should never end. Green Branches: these branches are born from the pine, which means immortality, because while all trees lose their color and foliage during the winter, the pine always maintains its green branches. It is also a color of hope and life. Candles: they represent that Christ is the light of the world, who helps us by accompanying us in the midst of pain and sadness, eliminating the cold caused by sin. Ornaments and Fruits: they represent the demonstration of the love of the Lord on the Cross. It is the joy that the Savior brings us. Furthermore, they can be a reflection of the good works carried out by man,
WHAT DATE IS ADVENT CELEBRATED?
First Sunday of Advent: it begins this Sunday, December 3, and a purple candle is lit. Second Sunday of Advent: it will be celebrated on December 10, and the second purple candle is lit. Third Sunday of Advent: also called Advent Sunday. Gaudete, is celebrated on December 17 with the lighting of a pink candle. Fourth Sunday of Advent: it is December 24 and is celebrated with the lighting of the last purple candle. Optionally, certain Catholics light a white candle on Christmas, December 25.
PRAYERS FOR ADVENT 2023
“Lord Jesus, in this season of Advent we ask you to grant us a vigilant heart, full of hope and love for your coming. Inflame our hearts Holy Spirit, so that full of courage, we remain alert and devoted in love towards our neighbors, awaiting your arrival. Amen”.
“Good Father, grant us the power to prepare the way of the Lord and straighten the paths of our lives. Allow us to be good land, through which your beloved Son can walk freely. Give us a heart that listens to your Word so we can convert. We are not worthy of Jesus’ habitation, but you can make us a warm, clean home for Him. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
“Lord Jesus, with humility we ask you to enable us to be faithful witnesses of you, who are the Light. Give us the strength of your Spirit, so that, loving like you, giving our lives in service, forgiving seventy times seven, loving those who offend us, going through the world pouring out mercy without limit, we may glorify our Father and be a living invitation to follow you. . Amen.”
“Dear Father, with a contrite and humiliated heart, we ask you to grant us the power to give birth to your beloved Son in the middle of the world. That, just as our holy Mother Mary told you: Yes, let your Word be done to me!, we can do it and bring our Lord to all corners of our personal world, to all relationships and areas. Fill us with grace, comfort us with your presence and banish the fear that prevents us from embracing the Gospel without limits. Amen.”
