Who says work, says presence of Lidar, the famous machine gun radar capable of flashing over long distances. Located near the Lidl in Neufchâteau throughout this weekend, the famous device was not idle since it flashed almost all the vehicles passing by it! But rest assured, most motorists caught will not receive anything in their mailbox. So no fines or trouble with the law. Explanations.
“The Lidar has been installed since the start of the work which began on Monday September 25, explains the police of the Center Ardenne zone. During the week, the area covered by the radar was in zone 30. Friday , at the end of the day, the first phase of the work ended and the area concerned returned to zone 70. The problem is that the Lidar was not reconfigured accordingly and therefore continued to flash at – above 30 km/h. Any person who has therefore been flashed below 70 km/h from Friday September 30, end of day, will not receive any fine.
As a reminder, this repair work over more than 4.5 kilometers is planned until Friday October 20. This Monday, the second phase of work began with a 30 km/h zone between Verlaine and the Semel zoning towards Neufchâteau. In the direction of Verlaine, the national road is closed beyond the Semel zone; traffic is therefore possible to access the shops in the zoning. The police in the Center Ardenne area specify that the Lidar was installed in another location in the work zone. “Many motorists complain regarding the maximum speed of 30 km/h, underlines the local police. This maximum speed to be respected is restrictive according to some but it guarantees the safety of all workers on the site.”
