82% of Gen Z employees think salary discussions are appropriate between employees, according to a new Skynova study of 1,000 employees. But, on the other hand, 38% of baby boomers think so. Know that there is a need to understand changing employee expectations and attitudes as companies continue to recruit following a pandemic of layoffs. Additionally, this data might be especially valuable for meeting managers who are struggling to build a stable team in a fast-paced and stressful work environment. Along these same lines, the drastic change in the way younger employees share salary information can be emotional and disruptive.

Should employers consider the salary range a bit more?

Although laws vary from state to state, employers are generally required to include a salary range in job postings. Likewise, they must specify the other advantages and compensations offered within the framework of the position.

Additionally, according to a recent New York Times article, 45% of job postings published by Indeed now include salary ranges. Also according to this article, some companies display salary ranges that are too wide to circumvent the new requirements. However, state regulators are working to crack down on these tactics.

On the other hand, the inclusion of salary ranges in job postings can be potentially disruptive information. But, according to the Skynova study, changes in the amount of salary information shared by younger employees can be an even more destabilizing factor for staff.
