In a study published by the “CDC”, which specializes in diseases and infections, the foul odor and irritated eyes are not only caused by chemicals in the swimming pool.

In fact, a chlorinated pool does not contain any chemicals harmful to your health when swimming.

Rather, it is when chlorine is mixed with other products and substances, such as urine, stool, skin cells, makeup, and deodorant that cause the strong odor and stinging eyes.

In the United States, no less than 58% of the samples from public swimming pools taken by the “CDC” contained traces of the E. coli bacterium.

Remember that this bacterium is present in the intestines and faeces of humans.

This mixture of substances leads to the formation of chemical irritants, chloramines, which can cause skin or nasal irritation, coughing, asthma and difficult breathing.

Using chlorine or other chemicals lessens the health consequences and kills most germs in the pool, except one that is more stubborn.

“Cryptosporidium can survive for more than seven days in swimming pool water containing one ppm of free chlorine,” a CDC spokesperson told Nextstar media.

“It is partly for this reason that cryptosporidium is the leading cause of pool-related outbreaks.”

Symptoms related to exposure to the germ can be serious for immunosuppressed people.
