Understanding the Alcoholic Content of Alcohol-Free Beers: Is Your Drink Really Alcohol-Free?

Over the past ten years, the non-alcoholic beer market has exploded. More bubbles, more aromas and more choice, alcohol-free beer is foamy. But are they really all alcohol-free?

If Kronenbourg has been a leader in the segment since 2015 with its Tourtel Twist, today, most large and small brewers offer their range without alcohol.

But be careful, the word “alcohol-free” does not necessarily mean a degree of alcohol equal to 0. Which is surprising… But it is legal.

Less than or equal to 1.2%

In fact, France, like many countries, authorizes the name “alcohol-free beer”, provided that it displays an alcohol level less than or equal to 1.2% by volume (decree no. 92-307 of March 31, 1992). It is therefore not uncommon to find beers labeled “without” with a very slight degree of alcohol.

Finally, note that there are also beers certified halal, that is to say with 0.0% alcohol.
