How to find out the condition of your pelvis and joints by looking at the ‘shoe heels’

If only the heel of one of your shoes is worn out, it may be because your spine and pelvis are misaligned and the length of both legs are different./Photo = Clip Art Korea Let’s turn over the shoes you wear every day for a moment. By looking at the heel of a shoe, you can tell what your usual gait is and if there is any suspected joint disease. Learn regarding your health status by looking at the heel of your shoes.

◇Only one heel is worn → Pelvis is distorted
If only one of your shoes is worn out, it means that your spine and pelvis are out of alignment. This is because if the spine is bent or the pelvis is distorted due to poor posture, the length of both legs will be different. There may be a congenital difference in leg length, but it may be caused by acquired factors due to misalignment of the spine, pelvis, hip joints, and knee joints. This difference in leg length can lead to walking problems such as limping. You may also suspect ‘misalignment syndrome’, which is caused by incorrect normal posture. Misalignment syndrome is a misalignment of the limbs, including the spine and pelvis, and typical symptoms include asymmetrical changes in the range of motion of the limbs or stiffening of the muscles.

◇Only the outer heel is worn → 8-foot walk
If only the outside of the heel is severely worn, you should suspect that you are walking with a straight leg when walking. The eight-shaped step refers to the posture of walking in an eight-shaped shape with the toes spread out regarding 15 degrees. When the outer cartilage of the hip and knee joints is damaged due to degenerative arthritis, you end up walking in a nasolabial form. In addition, if the muscles around the hip joints or supporting the pelvis are weak, if you frequently cross your legs, or if you have a lot of fat in your abdomen or inner thighs, you may also end up walking in an eight-legged manner. Walking with an eight-legged step for a long time can cause your lower back to lean backwards, causing inflammation in your spinal joints. Additionally, as the pelvis becomes distorted, there is a risk of developing musculoskeletal diseases such as herniated discs in the lower back.

◇Only the inner heel is worn out → Walking without walking
If the inside of the heel is worn out, there is a high possibility that you will walk awkwardly. The opposite of the eight-legged step is walking with both toes turned inward by regarding 10 to 15 degrees. When viewed from the side, the upper body is tilted forward and the lower body is slightly backward, making it look awkward. The main cause of shaky steps is also degenerative arthritis or weak hip joints. Additionally, people with flat feet also have their center of gravity concentrated inward, their ankles are bent, and the inside of their shoes are worn out as they walk with an unsteady gait. If you neglect to walk backwards, your legs may bend and become O-shaped. In this case, the weight applied to the knee joint is not distributed normally, which may lead to knee arthritis.
