The correct name for the disease commonly referred to as ‘sexually transmitted disease’ is sexually transmitted infection. This is because germs and viruses that cause disease are spread through sexual contact. The Korean government designates and monitors infectious diseases with a high incidence but relatively low severity as ‘class 4 infectious diseases’ (AIDS is a class 3 infectious disease), and among them, 7 sexually transmitted infections are 7 types. These are syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia infection, chancroid, genital herpes simplex, condylomum condylom, and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Did you know that in the case of genital ulcers, which are a representative symptom, there is a big difference in the onset pattern depending on the type of sexually transmitted infection? Check out the information on sexually transmitted infections in one infographic.
