As a native West Virginian, I appreciate Sen. Joe Manchin III’s (D) service to the state as governor and senator. I also understand why he decided not to run for reelection, given how significant former president Donald Trump’s brand is in the state. However, when Mr. Manchin says he wants to go around the country to encourage support for a more civil discourse and the possible development of a third party, he is missing the point.
