If he first thought it was a (bad) joke, today, David Bouhon laughs. He believes that the amount claimed from him by the province is completely disproportionate to the damage of which he is allegedly guilty. This resident of Lens expresses his incomprehension: “That provincial agents pass through the villages to observe this kind of triviality astonishes me.”

The province explains that it is a flat tax. The 446 euros are not linked to the number of tires but to the surface area on which this deposit is stored. “On 5 acres, we can store much more than 4 tires, hence this fixed amount”specifies Fabrice Brogniez, financial director in the province of Hainaut.

The provincial regulation provides for a tax for tire, used car and scrap metal deposits visible from the street.
