multiple sclerosis (1)

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the spinal cord and brain that develops due to a malfunction in the body’s immune system.

The first symptoms very often appear suddenly: weakening (subsequently paralysis) of the lower and then upper limbs, tension or, conversely, weakening of the muscles, decreased skin sensitivity, numbness, burning and tingling in the arms and legs. Gait, balance, coordination of movements are disturbed, weight is reduced. There are malfunctions in the work of the intestines and bladder, in men the potency decreases. Memory and mental acuity deteriorate, depression may develop. If you do not see a doctor in time, there can be only one result – severe disability, and then death.

The real cause that causes the “crazy” of the immune system, and as a result, multiple sclerosis, the doctors failed to establish. One thing is known for sure: most often the disease develops as a result of a viral or infectious disease – influenza, measles, herpes, pneumonia, meningitis.

If you have been diagnosed

The course of multiple sclerosis is unpredictable. Sometimes following the first exacerbations, the disease recedes, sometimes it progresses rapidly. The prognosis of treatment, as doctors say, is unfavorable. There are no drugs that significantly affect the outcome of the disease yet – all existing methods of treatment only prevent exacerbations and facilitate their course. But do not despair: the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis is not a sentence! Even with a severe form of the course of the disease, the disease can be frozen for a long time (for 30-40 years), if, in parallel with the treatment prescribed by the doctor, simple rules are followed:

  • do not overwork;
  • do not spend much time in the sun;
  • use any medication only on the advice of a doctor;
  • avoid sudden changes in climate and time zones;
  • do not be nervous;
  • spend as much time outdoors as possible.
