Symptoms of genital herpes can vary from person to person and can be more or less severe. Some people may have no symptoms and not know they are infected, while others may have very painful and frequent symptoms.
Common symptoms of infection usually appear one to three weeks following infection, this is called primo-infection. Burning and itching will be felt and then, painful vesicles appear on the level of the genitals, anus or buttocks. These blisters are often painful and can burst, leaving open sores that take longer to heal.
People with genital herpes may experience pain or a burning sensation when urinating and also develop fever, headache, and general fatigue.
