Dizziness when standing up can be a signal of impending senile dementia or death.
Is your pressure normal?
American scientists from Johns Hopkins University in Maryland conducted a small study and found that persistently high blood pressure increases the risk of dementia in old age, as it destroys the vessels of the brain.
But for those who have low blood pressure, it’s too early to rejoice – you are no less likely to fall into senile dementia.
The results of this study were confirmed by family doctor Igor Semenikin. According to him, representatives of orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure) may experience a feeling of dizziness when rising to their feet from a sitting position. This phenomenon occurs due to a sharp drop in pressure.
Take urgent action
The doctor explained that when you get up from a sitting or lying down state, the body begins to send blood and oxygen to the brain. If this does not happen, then blood pressure decreases significantly, which leads to orthostatic hypotension.
Semenikin named the classic symptoms of this condition: dizziness, visual disturbances, nausea, fatigue, and fainting.
This type of hypotension has different causes, including aging, anemia, dehydration, and certain medications.
The specialist advised those who have problems with high or low blood pressure not only to monitor the readings of the tonometer. At the first symptoms, go to the doctor, and not let everything take its course.
