Books – Sayed Metwally

Diabetes is a life-altering condition that causes blood sugar levels to get too high.

There are two types of diabetes, the second type is more common than the first type, and 2 occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin, or when the body’s cells do not react to insulin properly, according to the British newspaper Express.

As for type 1 diabetes, it occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin, but it is not known exactly what triggered it.

Symptoms for both type 1 and type 2 are usually the same, although they may develop more slowly if you have type 2.

A British pharmacist warned, of one of the common signs of the condition to look out for, which can easily be confused with the effects of hot weather.

According to Georges Sandow, MD, supervising pharmacist at Well Pharmacy, “extreme thirst” is a symptom of diabetes that needs to be investigated.

He warned that you may become thirstier “compared to what is normal for you”. This is also a sign of heatstroke or dehydration.

Other symptoms of diabetes he shared include fatigue and an excessive urge to urinate.

An excessive need to urinate may be one clue that the symptoms may be due to diabetes rather than dehydration.

Sandu explained what you should do if you are concerned that you may have diabetes, or are at risk of developing the condition.

“If you are concerned that you may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, want to know more regarding the signs and symptoms or some advice on how to lower your risk, you can talk to a doctor,” he said.

“Many people don’t realize that many cases of type 2 diabetes can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle, unlike type 1 diabetes which has nothing to do with lifestyle,” he adds.

He continued: “Losing weight and doing more exercise if you are overweight or inactive can reduce your chances of developing this condition, as can adhering to a healthy diet.

The NHS lists common symptoms of diabetes as follows:

Feeling very thirsty

Urinating more frequently than usual, especially at night

Feeling very tired

Weight loss and muscle mass loss

Itching around the penis or vagina, or frequent bouts of thrush

blurred vision

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should speak to a doctor as soon as possible, as type 1 diabetes can progress quickly over weeks or even days.

Weight loss is common in people with type 1 diabetes when it first appears and before treatment, but it is less common in people with type 2 diabetes.

Many people have had type 2 diabetes for years without realizing it because early symptoms tend to be general, or no symptoms at all.
