HEALTH. Avenir santé Sud-Haute-Marne (ASSHM) offered its annual health conference on Thursday, November 16, on the theme of diabetes, an insidious disease that affects more than five million people in France.

Once once more, the ASSHM offered a very comprehensive conference on Thursday, November 16 at the Michel-Humbert theater, in front of a good hundred people.

Dr Maxime Brenner, specialist in endocrinology at the Langres hospital center, opened the conference on the history of this disease, nicknamed the “silent killer”. In fact, people can live for years without any apparent symptoms. There are several types of diabetes: type 1, which affects children and is treated with insulin; type 2, more common and often linked to contributing factors, such as diet, genetics, obesity, sedentary lifestyle or even alcohol and tobacco; finally gestational diabetes which affects pregnant women.

Dr Maxime Brenner, specialist in endocrinology at the Langres hospital center, opened this conference on the history of this disease, nicknamed the “silent killer”.

The evening allowed us to discuss advances in medicine, but Drs Maxime Brenner and David Bernard insisted on the importance of doing regular blood tests in order to be diagnosed as early as possible, “We must detect what is ( are) the favoring factor(s) and try to play on it to return to a balance, but very regular monitoring will be obligatory. “. The evening also allowed us to hear the testimony of a patient, Mr. Assilineau, who, with great humor, recounted how he was diagnosed 20 years ago and his daily life since.

An alarming progression

According to the latest estimates, 700 million people will be diabetic by 2045. During the evening, Stéphanie Guichard, from the company Isis Diabetes, a home service provider, presented the different insulin pumps that exist, a presentation of the materials was offered in the theater lobby at the end of the conference. The CMES also presented its programs which can, upon medical prescription, help patients in their journey to live better on a daily basis.
