The popular music singer relived one of the hardest health episodes of his life, which led him to resign himself in the midst of confusion.

Jhon Álex Castaño spoke some time ago regarding an illness for which he had to give up alcohol, although on that occasion he did not specify what the illness consisted of that led him to that determination.

The truth is that this topic came up once more in the program ‘Clinic history’from Canal RCN, which in the broadcast on Sunday, December 3, led to a strong memory for the artist.

The popular music singer stated that at that time he felt discouragement, pain and that he came to think: “I’m going to die.” The situation was such that, as those close to him revived, he bought a farm to isolate himself in the midst of that resignation for his health.

There, the endocrine doctor Otmaro Belálcazar appeared, a fan of his who came to analyze the condition of the nicknamed ‘King of the Pacifier’, and found out what happened to him.

The expert indicated that the Pereira native self-medicated with “steroidal medications,” which led to a disease known as ‘Cushing’ syndrome.

“Self-medicating is suicide, it is crazy. “I almost ended my life by self-medicating,” the interpreter acknowledged regarding this condition, of which they identified the symptoms to give it adequate treatment.

What is Cushing’s syndrome and symptoms?

“This disease occurs when the body has too much of the hormone cortisol for a long time. This may be due to the body producing too much cortisol or the administration of medications called glucocorticoids, which affect the body in the same way that cortisol does,” says the study. Mayo Clinic on their website.

Among the symptoms identified with Cushing’s syndrome are:

Weight gain on the face (the so-called moon face), on the trunk, but with thin arms and legs. Accumulate fat between the shoulders. Thin and fragile skin, which bruises more easily. Slow healing and acne.

To do this, despite being known for high amounts of drinking, Castaño had to apply some key points as part of his treatment to achieve recovery. These were:

Physical activity and strength exercise. Healthy diet. Antihypertensives, oral antidiabetics

“This is one of the diseases that, when not treated in time, kills you,” explained doctor Otmaro Belálcazar, recalling the case of the popular music singer, who moved forward despite this illness that no one understood and led him to regret in his death.

He lasted between 12 to 16 months without drinking to be physically restored, following a risk that gave him a “very scary scare,” in the words of Castaño himself, who now went from being the ‘King of chupe’ to being the ‘King of stew’.
