Understanding Child and Juvenile Violence: Investigating the Tragic Case of Luise from Freudenberg

A good four months following the violent death of 12-year-old Luise from Freudenberg, the investigation is nearing completion. Two 12- and 13-year-old girls confessed to stabbing Luise in March. Because the two are not yet of criminal age, the proceedings are being discontinued, as a spokesman for the Siegen public prosecutor said on request. There will be no charges or trial.

The two alleged perpetrators are being cared for by the youth welfare office. “The suspected girls are still in therapeutic facilities,” says a spokeswoman for the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. The girls get school lessons, but do not currently go to a regular school.

The North Rhine-Westphalian state government wants to focus more on acts of violence among children and young people. “It is our responsibility as a society that our children can grow up in a safe environment,” warned Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU). He pointed out that there are more offers at schools, for example from school psychologists or social workers. The state government has also provided the schools with updated recommendations for action for various crises.
