Chemsex is sexual intercourse under the influence of drugs to boost desire and performance. The phenomenon is popular with part of the gay homosexual community.
It is also a practice – publicized following the accident caused by the comedian Pierre Palmade – extremely risky, as Pierre (not his real name), tried in Brussels following the death of his business partner, learned to his cost. one night.
Jérémie died on August 19, 2019 following taking GHB (the “date rape drug) and cocaine. Four years in prison with suspended probation were required once morest Pierre for inciting or facilitating the use of narcotics with the circumstance that this caused death.
“Chemsex skips the stages of seduction and desire”
An addictive practice
Pierre is not a desocialized drug addict. He runs a company in the cultural sector. He discovered Chemsex in 2013 and, according to witnesses, he no longer had sex without taking drugs. Which he weakly contests. It seems that some “Chemsexers” can no longer have “classic” sexual relations which seem “bland” to them.
On August 18, 2019, Pierre came into contact with Jérémie via a dedicated dating application, planet Romeo. “We exchanged our sexual desires. We talked regarding the use of narcotics. And the meeting happened. I arrived at his house,” he told the court.
The Brussels public prosecutor’s office is increasingly confronted with Chemsex incidents.
Everything was therefore, to hear him, perfectly framed: “We were two adults who decided to do things together”. Pierre came with his GHB and his cocaine. Jérémie had little GHB in his home and, apparently, no cocaine.
GHB must be precisely dosed. To avoid any problems, “Chemsexers” note the times of administration. Everyone determines their quantity: Pierre had a syringe for measurements. They wrote down the times on a piece of paper in two columns. The paper was found.
“We were in tune,” says Pierre. But everything went wrong. Pierre says he fell into a “black hole” following a last take at 10:30 a.m.
At 1:30 p.m., he came out of his torpor and discovered the inert body of Jérémie. Dead. He called 112 and a friend who, via SMS, advised him to say that the drugs came from Jérémie. Pierre wrote – without sending the message – “Of course I did”.
Drug trafficking: “We have young people, sometimes minors, who come to ‘work’ in the Midi zone, keeping watch for 100 or 200 euros”
The dose too much?
But today he repeats that this did not “correspond to his values” and that he followed his conscience and took his responsibilities. “I felt that I was in my right mind and that I had nothing to hide. I didn’t feel like I did anything wrong.”
This is not the reading of Jérémie’s family, civil party and in full in court. Their lawyer, Me Xavier Carrette, largely supported the case so that it reached court because initially the investigation was quite basic pending toxicological examinations.
Me Carrette does not believe in the “black hole” and points out that around 10:00 a.m., the neighbor downstairs heard Jérémie shout “But what are you doing to me?” before hearing him spit and cough vigorously. “Pierre supplies (the drugs), manages it, perhaps he even insists,” deciphers the lawyer who believes that Pierre would even have tried to remove what might incriminate him.
The prosecutor shares the civil party’s reading. Not seeing Pierre as a sexual predator, she requested four years in prison with probation.
The defense, Me Denis Bosquet, noted that there was mutual consent between adults, whether for sexual practices or taking drugs. According to the lawyer, who is now pleading for acquittal as the main reason, Jérémie’s heart would have been weakened by regular use of cocaine. This is contested by the civil party and the prosecution, referring to the conclusions of the autopsy which attributes the death to a combination of GHB and cocaine. Judgment on December 21.
