Perhaps the most common health condition in these cases is varicose veins, or varicose veins, which are basically blood vessels that can be seen through the skin and tend to become inflamed, twisted, or dilated.

“Varicose veins are common, they affect women more than men. They do not cause problems for most people. However, if the blood flow through the veins becomes poor enough, problems such as swelling and pain in the leg, blood clots, and skin changes can occur,” explains MedlinePlus, the online encyclopedia of the National Library of Medicine. United States Medicine.

That source notes that some specific populations are more likely to develop varicose veins. Risk factors include advanced age, obesity, family history, jobs that require people to stand for long periods of time, pregnancy, and birth defects that cause blood valves to not work properly.

People suffering from varicose veins may have symptoms such as heavy and painful legs, visible and swollen veins, thin blood vessels that look like “spiders” on the skin, cramps in both the thighs and calves (a discomfort that occurs mainly at night), swelling in the ankles and itching near the affected veins.

The non-profit health care organization Baptist Health South Florida in the United States has pointed out that it is hypothesized that varicose veins might increase the risk of even greater complications with circulation.
