Scoliosis is a deformity in which the spine curves sideways by more than 10 degrees, resulting in misalignment of the shoulders, waist, and hips. Looks like a “C” or “S”, which scoliosis may not show symptoms. found from infancy to adulthood But the most common is during adolescence. Born in females more than males From the research, it was found that 0.35 – 13% of adolescents had scoliosis, depending on the angle of data collection. which usually do not show symptoms in the early stages But it was detected from the parents noticing the child walking slanted. uneven shoulders and hips In addition, when growing up, the abnormality of the body will appear clearly. If left, there will be a risk of complications. Causing the body to lose balance affecting life effect on beauty social and psychological conditions, as well as increasing the likelihood of developing chronic back pain in the future

scoliosis It rarely shows obvious changes in the body and spine. The child had no soreness or pain. Parents must observe from abnormal body physiology, for example, when standing upright, both shoulders are not equal in height-low. The scapula, or wing-like bone, is convex more than the other side. one side of the hips raised or higher than the other side The ribs are unequal in height. body tilted to one side The two breasts are not equal. Notice that the skirt is twisted and twisted.
Scoliosis in adolescents Can be divided into 2 types as follows
1. Known cause scoliosis found in 20% of patients with scoliosis. It is caused by abnormal growth of the spine, nervous system, skeletal system or muscles. There are diseases of the bones, muscles, and nervous system that cause changes in the spine, such as congenital scoliosis, a developmental disorder of the fetus. in the formation of abnormal spine resulting in a congenital curvature of the spine Functional scoliosis is an abnormality in other parts of the body, such as the legs being short and uneven in length. Hip problems affecting the spine or muscle spasms from incorrect behavior and posture for a long time Until causing the structure and muscles to adjust in the wrong way If corrected at the root cause, scoliosis can be solved. Scoliosis from neuromuscular tendon disorders (Neuromuscular Scoliosis) found in children with abnormalities of the spinal cord. brain and musculoskeletal system The muscles and nerves are unable to maintain the balance of the trunk and spine. This type of scoliosis usually becomes more severe as children grow into adults. Including genetic diseases that change many body systems are involved.
2. Idiopathic Scoliosis can be found in 80% of patients with scoliosis. It is most common in the age group of 10-18 years (Adolescent idiopathic Scoliosis) because it is when the child is regarding to enter adolescence. bone will grow The height of the child increases rapidly. Therefore, you should be careful because it is the time when this group of scoliosis will have an angle that increases faster. If the scoliosis is at an angle of less than 20 degrees, use surveillance treatment. by x-ray follow-up every 6 months and recommend appropriate exercise do physical therapy to monitor the changes in the back Because the spine may be more crooked to the point that the body is abnormal. If it is crooked between 30-40 degrees in those under 15 years old, it can be corrected by wearing armor to adjust the curvature of the spine. Which doctors recommend wearing 23 hours a day. together with physical therapy to slow down the rate of increase of degrees But if unable to slow down the degree angle Doctors may diagnose and correct by surgery.

Adverse effects of scoliosis in adolescents If not treated, it will cause the child to have a deformed shape, not beautiful, causing insecurity in their own body. As the age increases, it results in chronic back pain. or premature deterioration of the spine If the spinal curvature is greater than 60, the space within the chest will decrease. causing the lungs to be unable to fully expand, with symptoms of shortness of breath and difficulty breathing If the tilt is greater than 90 degrees, it increases the risk of respiratory distress even more. resulting in the circulatory system of blood can be reduced in efficiency Therefore, parents should observe your child’s body. This is because scoliosis in adolescents usually does not show obvious symptoms. and occurred for unknown reasons. Requires observation and screening.
