Hong Kong influenza is an acute respiratory disease caused by the H3N2 serotype of influenza A virus. It is easily transmitted from person to person, and those at risk include young children, the elderly, pregnant women and patients with chronic diseases. How this flu manifests itself, Dmitry Shevtsov, chairman of the public association “Belarusian Association of Doctors”, told on the TV channel ONT.

As Dmitry Shevtsov noted, the main symptoms of the Hong Kong flu are a sharp deterioration in health, a temperature above 39 degrees, chills, nausea, vomiting, redness and soreness of the eyeballs.

– The occurrence of shortness of breath, bleeding, convulsions, as well as episodes of loss of consciousness are considered dangerous. How to distinguish ARVI from such influenza? With another viral infection, the disease develops gradually, unlike the flu, the doctor added.

According to him, the disease is transmitted by sneezing, coughing, shaking hands, and using common household items.

– The patient begins to feel the first signs a day or two following infection. As soon as you feel unwell, you should immediately consult a doctor,” added Dmitry Shevtsov.
