It is not uncommon for tour guides to force tourists to shop. A family of five in China traveled with a group during the Spring Festival. However, they were kicked out of the car by the tour guide because they did not buy a bracelet worth 50,000 yuan (RMB, the same below). She posted the matter online, causing Some discussion.

Ms. Tian and her family traveled to Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and other places in Yunnan with a group tour. The group fee was 17,000 yuan. Before departure, they specifically asked if there were any compulsory purchases. The answer was “no compulsory purchases.” However, on the second day of the Lijiang tour , when visiting a jade shop, he was asked to buy a bracelet worth 50,000 yuan, otherwise he would be expelled from the tour group.

Ms. Tian said that the bracelet was not worth the price at all, not even 500 yuan, so she refused to buy it. As a result, a family of five was kicked out of the tour bus by the tour guide. In order to calm the trouble, most of the tourists in the bus chose to buy jade, and the tourist who spent the most bought it. It cost more than 200,000, and the total cost of the entire car was more than 800,000. Afterwards, she complained to the relevant departments and asked the tour guide to apologize, but the local cultural and tourism department responded: “The tour guide is currently receiving other tour groups and does not have time to apologize in person.”

Ms. Tian’s family had no choice but to buy air tickets to go home and end their journey early. Yunnan Cultural Tourism asked them to wait patiently for the outcome of the incident. After the experience was exposed, many netizens left messages and bombarded them, pointing out that there are too many traps in Yunnan tour groups, reminding everyone to be careful when traveling. “Shopping traps are not just once or twice.” Some people were even threatened that “if you don’t buy something, you can’t eat.” , “I can’t go to the airport or go home without buying something.” I am also curious why the government has not taken measures for so long.

Ms. Tian posted a video on her PO today (17th), revealing that the travel agency refunded 10,000 yuan for the unfinished itinerary. She did not want to have a negative impact on Yunnan tourism. “In addition to not receiving an apology from the tour guide, the attitude towards Lijiang Cultural Tourism Bureau and the travel agency is very bad.” Satisfied. We are just ordinary people. We don’t want to be disturbed by this matter anymore. We just want the matter to be resolved as soon as possible.” The relevant departments are investigating the situation and will issue a report once the results are available.
