The second passenger in the vehicle that Nahel was driving presented himself to the investigators on the morning of July 3. He had fled at the time of the tragedy. Today, he claims that the driver started unintentionally following being hit with the butt.
Accompanied by his mother, following more than four hours of hearing, he emerges free from the IGPN. The young man was the front passenger alongside Nahel. So far, the witness had spoken on social networks but never in front of the investigators. He lived in the chase in the streets of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), up to the police checkpoint where he had fled. According to information from France 2, he claims that the 2nd policeman would have hit Nahel with his weapon three times.
Further analysis of the current video
The autopsy did not show any traces of such violence. The IGPN seeks to verify whether a blow has been struck. The witness also maintains that the police officers made threats, as he had already said in an audio message published online. “The policeman who is at the level of the window points a gun at his head and says: ‘Don’t move or I’ll put a bullet in your head’. The second policeman says to him: ‘Shoot him'”, he said. The IGPN remains cautious and is considering another interpretation of the police officers’ remarks. Further analysis of the video is underway by the IRCGN gendarmes.
