The inspection of his body was carried out at the El Country clinic, located in the north of Bogotá, last Wednesday, February 21, hours after Franco Charry was taken away without vital signs and with three bullet wounds at neck and face height. , On the left side.

This was the hitman who murdered Franco Charry.
His crime, which was recorded on security video cameras and on the citizens’ retinas, left two major lines of investigation open.
The first, the location of the person or people who paid to kill Franco Charry; and the second, the criminal organization that carried out the assassination act at 7:23 in the morning, using a pistol with a silencer and defying the authorities of the capital.
In fact, investigators are investigating whether the same subject who entered the garage of the luxurious offices where CNS Colombia SAS operates – the company of Franco Charry and his children, located on 93rd Street and 11th Street – is the same one who was involved in a shooting with an escort in the Rosales neighborhood.

In addition to the physical appearance, the perpetrator of both events was wearing the same black sweatshirt, with a psychedelic face printed on the back.
Authorities do not rule out that the same criminal network – even made up of former members of the public force – is behind this type of crime that shakes the city.

The last call
It is believed that in addition to murders, the gang is involved in recent assaults on merchants in San Andresitos (where there have also been shootings and even one death), and on luxury residences in the north of Bogotá.
Merchants in the area where Franco Charry – brother of the former director of Dian Óscar Franco – was shot, claim that they had already seen the hitman and his accomplice drinking coffee sitting in Parque de la 93, in a clear intelligence effort.

According to data from the Statistical, Criminal, Contraventional and Operational Information System of the National Police (Siedco), in 2023 there were at least 1,071 cases of homicides in Bogotá. From January 1 to February 21, 2024, 130 cases of murders have been registered in the capital. In the same period of 2023 there were 151 cases.
In Wednesday’s crime, the seasoned hitman had timed the exact time that the building’s garage door remained open. And he managed to enter, kill his target and flee seconds before the chip closed the entrance.

But two things failed that today are key clues to reach those who gave the order to activate the trigger. Although he managed to escape, he did not count on the fact that an escort of a protected person who usually has breakfast at the Bagatelle restaurant in the area, would react by shooting him in the leg and rendering the motorcycle on which he was going to escape useless with another bullet.
The reaction of the anonymous escort also allowed the man on the motorcycle who was waiting for the murderer to be captured. As EL TIEMPO revealed, his name is Jean Karlo Bermúdez Camargo, a 26-year-old security guard, who knows who the hitman is and who may have information about the masterminds of that and other cases.

For now, Franco Charry’s family has chosen to remain silent. However, EL TIEMPO established that one of the businessman’s sons and partner took up the matter and that a lawyer was appointed to take charge of the case at the Prosecutor’s Office.
One of the investigators told EL TIEMPO that there are two hypotheses surrounding the crime. Furthermore, Franco Charry’s cell phone is a key piece in the investigation.
Indeed, in the videos it is seen that the businessman, an expert advisor and auditor of companies, was talking on his cell phone when he got out of his black armored car and the hitman surprised him.
Seconds before collapsing in the building’s reception, he managed to make another call and, apparently, send a text message.

“Roberto was a great father and businessman. He frequented his farms in Cundinamarca and used to go with one of his sons to race motorcycles in Villa de Leyva. The issue has greatly impacted us,” a person close to the Franco Charry family told this newspaper.

This is the official letter in which the Superintendence of Companies gave notice.
On the same day of the crime, the version began to circulate that Franco Charry had an appointment in which he was going to deliver alleged evidence of irregularities in one of the companies he advised.
EL TIEMPO established that, immediately, a letter dated May 2, 2023 was located in the Prosecutor’s Office, in which the Superintendence of Companies transferred, by jurisdiction, a complaint about alleged irregularities of one of the firms to which Franco Charry had advised.

This newspaper had access to the document that Supersociedades sent to the criminal justice system in which they refer to the millionaire inheritance of Mr. Roberto Romero Liévano, the founder of El Arrozal and CIA SCA, the company that owns the well-known Líder Supermarket chain.
There there is talk of an alleged “hostile takeover” and alleged irregularities.
This was the moment when the hitman entered the parking lot and murdered Franco Charry.
The document sent by the Supersociedades is being reviewed and, in addition, a couple of complaints that were already pending in the Prosecutor’s Office for an alleged attempted homicide of people linked to the case, and where there is talk of a rocky transactional agreement with Franco Charry.
EL TIEMPO communicated with at least two people close to the Romero family who flatly ruled out that there was any type of connection between both events and refrained from giving statements.

However, hours after the crime, this newspaper spoke with Jonathan Romero, one of the partners and heir of Roberto Romero Liévano, who even assured that he was at the clinic where they tried to save the life of businessman Franco Charry.
“In addition to being an advisor, he was my friend. He worked at the company since 2016,” explained Jonathan Romero.
And he added that neither Franco Charry nor they had received threats: “He sometimes asked me to borrow a bodyguard when he went to his farm in Ubaté. “We are very shocked.”
And after clarifying that he is a minority partner, he indicated that he knew that Franco Charry had an appointment with a partner of Supermercados Líder on the day of his death. But he refrained from giving the name.

That Wednesday EL TIEMPO also contacted Alejandra Isaza Vélez, a model and presenter who was married to Franco Charry. In a couple of brief calls he said that she was immediately traveling to Bogotá because she had just found out about the case.
And, on Friday afternoon, he issued a statement: “Regarding the news that is circulating, I have received several calls from different media outlets. At the moment, I have not made nor do I intend to make any statement to the media. It is a difficult time for my daughter’s father’s family, for me and for my daughter. “I ask you for prudence and respect.”
The case of Franco Charry joined others that have already led the Petro government to offer support to the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, to reinforce security in the country’s capital.
