Cardiovascular disease is the name for a group of conditions that can affect the heart and circulation including heart failure, strokes and coronary heart disease, which are usually linked to a buildup of fat in the arteries called atherosclerosis.
As with any medical condition, the sooner you notice any of the warning signs of atherosclerosis or cardiovascular disease, the sooner you will be able to seek the treatment you need, according to the British Express newspaper.
Some symptoms are more familiar, such as chest pain or shortness of breath, but others may seem less familiar.
One expert revealed an unusual sign of clogged arteries that can appear in an unexpected place, which is the ear.
The British physician, Dr. Janine Bowring, warned of the “Frank sign,” which is a small fold in a diagonal position at the bottom of the earlobe.
“This is the sign of a blocked artery that your doctor never told you regarding, known as Frank’s sign, so please check your ears and earlobes if there is a crease that looks like this, this is known as Frank’s sign,” she said.
Boring explained more regarding the symptoms, saying: “It was discovered by Dr. Frank, and this was in 1975, that a number of his patients who were under the age of 60 who were suffering from angina and coronary artery disease, and they had this crease in the earlobe.” .
She continued: “It has been found in a recent study conducted now in 2021 that patients with earlobe wrinkles may be associated with a lower concentration of an age-inhibiting hormone or enzyme known as Klotho, and Klotho is known to be involved in dysfunction of the lining of blood vessels in the artery, so “This is important.”
A separate study, published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine in 2021, analyzed 3,951 patients with coronary artery disease, and the researchers concluded that although “its mere presence or absence should not affect the clinical management of patients.”
“However, for its usefulness and ease of interpretation, Frank’s sign may be considered part of the physical examination,” they said.
While some people are at greater risk of developing atherosclerosis due to genetics, it is often linked to lifestyle choices such as diet and smoking.
Therefore, to reduce risks, the NHS advises:
Eat healthy food and less saturated fat and sugar
Exercise regularly
Maintain a healthy weight
Keep your blood sugar levels under control if you have diabetes
Do not smoke
Dr. Boring also recommended some natural remedies, and said: “My advice here is to maintain healthy arteries, make sure you include some garlic in your diet.
Some people show no signs of atherosclerosis, but it can cause:
Chest pain
Pain in the arms and legs, especially when exercising
Feeling short of breath
Feeling tired all the time
feel helpless
Feeling confused.
If you experience any symptoms or are concerned regarding your heart health, you should talk to a doctor.
