Hello Florence, yes indeed the temperatures have dropped below 0°C locally in certain Ardennes valleys. A place with a particular geography and meteorologists as well as enthusiasts have decided to install weather stations there in order to demonstrate the phenomenon of cold holes which is not well known. During clear nights with little wind, the radiation (heat evacuation) is very intense, especially on soils with a high albedo (grass, snow, sand). The cold on the denser ground flows down the slopes and accumulates in the valley bottoms where it can be 5 to 10°C colder than on the summits. We had another demonstration of this this morning with 0.6°C in Mürringen and 10.1°C in Botrange yet higher, a real natural fridge!
And on the rest of the country this Saturday?
Warmer air will begin to arrive from France accompanied by rather discreet cirrus clouds in the morning and sometimes a little thicker from Hainaut to Flanders. On the south, the east and the north up to the capital, the sun will be sharper but in general the impression will be very bright or even sunny. It will already be 25-26°C around noon in the plain.
In the followingnoon, the altitude veil may thicken but it will remain bright. The maxima will reach 22°C on the coastal strip, 24°C on the crests and 25 to 29°C elsewhere or even 30°C from Liège to Limburg where the sails will be thinner. In the evening, nothing to report and a few storms over France which will remain outside our borders. Sunday will see the instability increase with the risk of a stormy deterioration at the end of the followingnoon or even the beginning of the evening by France.
