A fortnight ago, during a preventive patrol in the small lanes of the Aclote countryside, the detective agents of the city of Nivelles had made a discovery which had led them to call the police. On Chemin de Ronquières, on the border with the town of Ittre, they had come across a clandestine dump consisting of bags containing the remains of cannabis and certain elements of a plantation which had obviously been dismantled.
It was not the first time, but this type of waste seemed to be rarer in recent months. Apparently, the phenomenon has resumed, and with a significant extent: this Tuesday morning, it is along the Guenette path, beyond the southern bypass, that the same kind of clandestine deposit was discovered. A large volume: a good twenty bags had been abandoned in this remote place.
“The same kind of bags and the same kind of contents as last timeindicates one of the observing officers. There was potting soil, a lot of plant remains, cans of fertilizer… Already last week, not far away, on Chemin de Fontaine-l’Évêque, we had found bags of potting soil. Since there was only potting soil, we didn’t call the police. But this Tuesday, we notified them to come on site.”
It is that, as there are fifteen days in the road of Ronquières, certain elements are likely to be exploited by investigators. In particular plastic gloves, probably used by those who dismantled the plantation before abandoning the waste in the fields. Specialists from the police lab also went on site to take readings.
When it comes to “normal” rubbish or construction waste, for example, the City’s inspectors carry out a small investigation to try to find the perpetrators. Here, when it comes to facts of a completely different nature, it is the police who take over. By dint of accumulating the elements, perhaps we will know one day who are those who chose Nivelles to get rid of the remains of the illegal plantations they operate…
“What connects these facts is above all that in Nivelles, there are quite a few motorway entrances and exits: it is quite easy to come from elsewhere to get rid of this kind of waste and then to to share out”points out the mayor, Pierre Huart.
