At a time when the sagas of summer have disappeared from the small screen – for economic reasons – Netflix is releasing a series that might mark the summer of its subscribers. Available this Friday on the streaming platform, it is none other than Uncoupled, a new nugget from Darren Star, creator of Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place and Sex and the City. The series, whose first season is made up of eight episodes, relates the adventures of Michael, a forty-year-old New Yorker who was swimming in complete happiness until the day when her husband decides to leave her following 17 years of relationship. Following this breakup, the man will discover the life of a bachelor of his age in the Big Apple.
In the skin of Michael, we find Neil Patrick Harris, actor known for having played Barney Stinson during the nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother. The blue-eyed blond – who recently sold his New York home for the exorbitant price of $7.1 million – has always been very discreet regarding his homosexuality. It was not until 2007 that he decided to formalize his relationship with David Burtka, actor with whom he was in a relationship in 2004. Together, they have fraternal twins, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, born to a mother carrier. They also married in September 2014 in Italy. “I fell in love with a guy and started spending all my time with him. In this kind of case, we want to make the most of it. The more I worked, the more I was exposed in the eye of the media and the more I understood that it was inevitable and that we should not have to restrict ourselves so much”, explained the actor to the Huffington Post.
In the cast of the funny and captivating Uncoupled, we find other well-known faces. Among them, Tisha Campbell (My family first, Empire), Tuc Watkins (Desperate Housewives), Marcia Gay Harden (Code Black, The Morning Show).
Un reboot de “Sex and the city” ?
To see the pitch and the first images, one might believe in a reboot of Sex and the city. Like Carrie Bradshaw, Michael is a single man looking for true love in New York, a city where life goes at a thousand miles an hour. Interviewed by us during the 60 edition of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, Darren Star nevertheless underlined that it was not a “Sex and the City for men”. With a gay main character, Uncoupled is, in any case, one of the rare series to honor the LGBT community.
