The writers’ tour “Sõnaränd” will arrive in Haapsalu on Thursday, where writers Tiia Kõnnussaar, Lilli Luuk and Anti Saar will meet students of Läänemaa joint high school during the day and readers in the Haapsalu library reading room in the evening.
“Just as Muhammad went to the mountain, the writer gets into the car and drives to the reader. This is a great opportunity for readers to meet their favorite writers in their hometown and ask them in a pleasant atmosphere what you have long wanted to know about literature,” said Maarja Kangro, chairwoman of the Estonian Writers’ Union..
One of the trio arriving in Haapsalu is Tiia Kõnnussaar, author name Tia Navi, is primarily known as a children’s writer. His book “A Little Love Story” has won third place in the knee-length book competition. In addition, he is the founder and first editor-in-chief of Pere ja Kodu magazine, and his writings have appeared in many Estonian publications.
Lilli Luuk has become known with two books, the novel “Minu venna keha” and the collection of short stories “Kolhoosi Miss”. He has picked up a number of short story awards and was selected as a Writer’s Wage recipient from 2023 to 2025 and was named Writer of the Year in 2023.
The third word traveler, Anti Saar, is a children’s writer and translator. As a translator, he has mainly translated prose and philosophical and humanitarian texts from the French language.
“Sõnaränd 2024” is the 18th writers’ tour, which is led by the Estonian Writers’ Union and supported by the Estonian Cultural Capital. A total of 18 writers will participate in the tour and 19 institutions in 14 counties will be visited. Writers talk about the present and future of Estonian literature. With the tour, literature is brought closer to the readers, and there is an opportunity to establish direct contact with both old favorites and writers offering new discoveries.
Writers will perform at Läänemaa joint high school on October 10 at 11:30 a.m., in the Haapsalu library reading room at 5:30 p.m.
