Nathan Drake has had a makeover. The hero of the saga Uncharted comes to PlayStation 5 with the collection Legacy of Thieves, a remastered version of the episodes A Thief’s End and The Lost Legacy. And he has obviously never been in such great shape.
Somewhere between the universes of Tomb Raider and the saga Indiana Jones, Uncharted has wowed gamers since its very first episode 15 years ago. We have since followed the treasure hunter Nathan Drake in each of his preposterous adventures across the planet, and this, with constantly renewed pleasure.
With Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Sony offers us on a silver platter the opportunity to revisit its most recent mission – A Thief’s End – in an enhanced version, both visually and audibly. The adventure continues with The Lost Legacy, featuring the heroines Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross, also reviewed and corrected by virtue of technological advances.
Striking realism
The landscapes will indeed never have been so breathtaking, their quality – already impressive in the original versions – having been considerably improved. It is especially noticeable in The Lost Legacy, with its sequences where India reveals its charms with a realism and an astonishing degree of detail and nuance.
The addition of the haptic feedback functions of the DualSense controller and the three-dimensional audio supported by Sony’s headphones also contribute to making the experience infinitely more immersive. Whether in Scotland, Panama or Madagascar, we are transported there with formidable efficiency.
The fights, on the other hand, remain still and always the Achilles heel of the saga Uncharted. Not very inventive and monotonous, they visibly come to play second fiddle to the plot, which is still as central and gripping as ever.
A landmark saga
We admit it, we would also have appreciated more novelties, if only through the addition of new costumes. But what the collection Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves gives us, she gives it to us well. And above all, by bringing to light a striking video game saga, certainly, but above all practically irreproachable.
This raises the expectations of the film adaptation ofUncharted, expected to hit our screens next month.
