Unauthorized departure of Marine Corps soldier denied entry at Ukrainian border

It is known that the recruits of a marine corps soldier who was on vacation and headed for Ukraine have been secured. An attempt to enter Ukraine from Poland was denied and will be handed over to Korean government officials, but it seems that he will be repatriated to Korea after a brief investigation. In the midst of this, it seems necessary to investigate the fact that active-duty soldiers were able to leave the country without a permit from the unit.

This is reporter Kim Pil-jun’s report.

Marine Corps soldier A, who was on vacation, had to return to the unit two days ago.

However, Mr. A headed to Incheon International Airport instead of the unit.

It is reported that those around him mentioned the situation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and said, “As a soldier, I cannot stand still.”

In fact, Mr. A left for Warsaw, Poland and then headed to the Ukrainian border.

It seems to be for volunteering for the international volunteer army, but Mr. A’s entry was denied at the border checkpoint on the Ukraine side.

The Ukrainian side will bring Mr. A to the Polish checkpoint and hand it over to Korean government officials soon.

It seems that the government will send Mr. A to Korea after completing a brief investigation.

The government previously tried to persuade Mr. A to return home by phone while he was staying in Poland, but to no avail.

Since then, it is known that the Ukrainian authorities have sought cooperation to secure the recruits of Mr. A.

Meanwhile, the situation of the Ukrainian International Volunteer Army that Mr. A wanted does not seem easy.

According to foreign media, the current international volunteer force is said to be insufficiently prepared for war.

“There were no weapons or ammunition,” a Frenchman said. “It was suicidal.”

The Frenchman also suffered shelling from Russia, he said, although there were about 400 volunteers at the site of the bombardment, but fewer than 70 were armed with weapons.

Among these, nine Koreans, including Lee Geun, a YouTuber who used to be a captain of the Naval Special Warfare Group, entered Ukraine without permission after the invasion of Russia, and some returned to Korea after persuasion.
