(Keystone-ATS) Nearly 1,000 people demanded the end of patriarchy and capitalism during an unauthorized demonstration on Saturday in Zurich, the day following International Women’s Day. They came together at the call of several far-left groups.

Present in force, the police indicated that they would tolerate the gathering as long as it remained peaceful. The atmosphere among the participants, mostly women, remained mostly good-natured, with the exception of some material damage due in particular to bags of paints thrown sporadically throughout the procession.

It broke out shortly before 3:00 p.m. from Paradeplatz, many participants having their faces masked. It ended at Helvetiaplatz an hour later.

The demonstration caused some disruption, particularly on Paradeplatz, traffic on various tram lines was limited at midday on Saturday, Zurich Public Transport (VBZ) reported.

Already on Friday, unauthorized demonstrations took place in Basel and Winterthur as part of International Women’s Day. These demonstrations took place peacefully.
