Unanimous vote for Wohlgemuth in the Tyrolean SPÖ board

After the withdrawal of the current state party leader, Deputy Governor Georg Dornauer, the state party executive board of the Tyrolean SPÖ made a lot of changes to its personnel on Wednesday evening. ÖGB boss Philip Wohlgemuth was unanimously appointed executive chairman from December 19th, and he has already been designated in this role. He was also recommended to the state party council as the next first deputy state governor with 100 percent.

The party nomination for the government office will then be made in the committee, in which Wohlgemuth Dornauer will also succeed on December 19th. Wohlgemuth told the APA that he “only heard positive things” in the more than two-hour meeting at the party headquarters in Innsbruck about the unanimous approval of the board. The 37-year-old announced that the state party conference, at which he will finally be elected as the new Tyrolean SPÖ leader, will take place next spring. This will be a regular party conference. He spoke out against an early “extraordinary” for “efficiency and cost reasons”.

Of course, the events of the past few days were also discussed in the leadership committee, said the new strong man of the Tyrolean Social Democrats. Of course, they are “anything but satisfied” with these and ask the Tyrolean population as well as the party members “for forgiveness”. Now we have to look to the future, “get stronger” and be united. There will be no personnel changes in the government of the Tyrolean SPÖ or in the state party.

The outgoing SPÖ leader Dornauer did not take part in the meeting. He apologized, explained state manager Lukas Matt when asked by APA. Wohlgemuth, however, let it be known that Dornauer would only remain a “temporary” member of the state parliament. He had already informed him and other SPÖ officials of this on Tuesday and Wednesday. “He will only temporarily accept the basic mandate to which he has a right until he reorients himself professionally,” explained the ÖGB chairman and member of the state parliament: “We assume that he will keep his word.” The SPÖ state parliament club, of which Wohlgemuth is also a member, had previously spoken out against Dornauer’s move to the state parliament with his planned departure on December 18th.

State Transport Councilor René Zumtobel expressed his “full support” to the ÖGB chairman, who has been in office since 2017, to the APA before the board meeting. The past few days have been “very difficult”. The state council did not reveal too much sadness about Dornauer: “The reporting has shown that it is good to make a new beginning with Philip Wohlgemuth.”

National Council member Selma Yildirim called Dornauer’s stay in the state parliament a “surprise”. She “takes note” of this, but is also only assuming a temporary solution.
