The UNAM Lake House receives the exhibition Lourdes Grobet: Create without fearan exhibition that honors the memory and 50 years of career of one of the most important Mexican photographers of our times.
The exhibition curated by Victor Muñozcreator and founder of Pentagon Process Groupis an attempt to approach various moments of the artist who died in July 2022.
Divided into three main thematic axes –archive, visual experimentation and family struggles–, the exhibition covers different spaces on the university campus, and also has parallel activities such as film series and reflection tables.
The exhibition and tribute to Lourdes Grobet at UNAM’s Casa del Lago starts on September 30 at 12:00 p.m. with the talk Create without fearwhere Magali Lara, Graciela Schmilchuk and Esteban Azuela will participate.
“At Lourdes Grobet, work and attitude are precursors of the essential elements of the contemporary art. In it we find traces of other possibilities for the function and meaning of art, to face the abyss in which we walk today,” said curator Víctor Muñoz.
The UNAM recalled, through a statement, that as an artist immersed in her time, at the beginning of her creative career, Lourdes Grobet burned her paintings to pursue photography due to the intermediation and massiveness of her images.
Experimentation led her to other media such as settings, photography, video and documentary film, theater, actions, installations, object art, artist’s book, public sculpture and digital art, among others.
