UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, Francesca Albanese, has called for punishment for the Israeli regime for its genocide in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel’s crimes are on record and the regime must be punished,” Albanese was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera on Friday (23/8) evening.

Aggression against religious sites, he said, was a sign of revenge and hatred and attacks on churches and mosques were recognized as war crimes.

The UN human rights rapporteur slammed the world for remaining silent on the situation in Gaza, while people there are being killed by weapons supplied by Europe and America.

He also reiterated that the Israeli regime had committed genocide in schools in Gaza and often did similar things.

On Friday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan urged judges to immediately announce the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his minister for military affairs Yoav Gallant for committing brutal crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories.

About two weeks ago, a deadly airstrike launched by the Israeli regime on the al-Tabeen school in the Daraj area of Gaza killed more than 120 Palestinians. The incident took place during morning prayers.

Since the start of the Israeli aggression last October, more than 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed by regime forces in the enclave. (Ant/Z-2)
