Ahead of emergency UN Security Council meeting, US calls on members to ‘strongly condemn’ Hamas attack
Before the emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council, which is to be held behind closed doors on Sunday evening to discuss the situation in the Middle East, the United States calls on all members of the latter to oppose the Hamas offensive once morest Israel. “We hope that all members of the Council will strongly condemn what happened” and Israel, “these heinous terrorist acts”declared Deputy American Ambassador Robert Wood to the press.

The Security Council, regularly divided on this issue, denounced Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories last January, believing that they jeopardized the two-state solution. This was the Council’s first decision on this issue in six years. In December 2016, for the first time since 1979, the Council called on Israel to stop colonization in the Palestinian territories.
