After Russian attacks on critical infrastructure in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked the UN Security Council for Moscow to be condemned. Russia must be clearly designated as a terrorist state, Zelenskyj demanded yesterday via video from the committee in New York. The council meeting had previously been put on the agenda at short notice following a request from Zelenskyj.
The attacks on critical infrastructure, which led to widespread power outages, are “crimes once morest humanity,” Zelensky said. He called for more air defense support and for United Nations teams of experts to investigate the damage.
Earlier, the UN High Representative for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, strongly condemned the attacks on critical infrastructure. Such attacks are prohibited under international human rights law and those responsible must be held accountable for violations.
