UN Security Council Resolution on Gaza: Impact, Analysis, and Reactions

The movement said in a statement that the decision is “an insufficient step, and does not meet the requirements of the catastrophic situation created by the Zionist military terror machine in the Gaza Strip.”

The movement added in its statement, “Over the past five days, the American administration has worked hard to empty this resolution of its essence… defying the will of the international community and the United Nations General Assembly to stop this aggression once morest our defenseless Palestinian people.”

The UN Security Council approved a scaled-down initiative to increase humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and called for urgent steps to “create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.”

This came following a week of postponement of the vote and intense negotiations to reach an agreement and an attempt to avoid the United States using its veto.

Council members voted in favor of the resolution, with the exception of the United States and Russia, which abstained from voting.

The United States also vetoed a Russian attempt to add a call for an “urgent and sustained cessation of hostilities” to a draft UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.
