UN Secretary-General strongly condemns North Korea’s ballistic missiles… Resuming the denuclearization dialogue

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on the 4th (local time) that he “strongly condemns the launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) by North Korea.”

“This is a reckless act and a violation of the resolutions of the Security Council,” Guterres said in a statement through spokesperson Stefan Dujarric on the same day.

Regarding the missile’s passage over Japan, sparking tensions, Secretary-General Guterres said, “It is very worrying that North Korea has once more ignored consideration for international air or maritime safety.”

Secretary-General Guterres urged North Korea to “resume dialogue with key stakeholders in order to achieve complete and verifiable denuclearization and sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula,” Dujarik said.

North Korea fired an IRBM at around 7:23 a.m. on the same day in Mupyong-ri, Jagang Province.

The missile flew 4,500 km over Japan.

Following North Korea’s ballistic missile provocations in violation of Security Council resolutions, the United States requested a meeting of the Security Council on the 5th to address the issue.
