The UN said Friday that Israel had killed 112 Palestinians in the West Bank since the start of 2023, more than double what the Jewish state had killed during the same period in 2022.

“Between January 1 and May 29, 2023, Israeli forces killed 112 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, more than double the death toll (53 Palestinians killed) during the same period in 2022” , reads the report published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Territories, on “the protection of civilians”.

Among the dead, five were killed by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The same source pointed out that “a total of 4,296 Palestinians have been injured in clashes with the Israeli army since the beginning of the year”.

As for settler attacks, the report mentions “409 attacks once morest Palestinians and their property, of which 304 caused material damage and 105 injured”.

On the Israeli side, the report states that “18 Israelis were killed and 111 others were injured in Palestinian operations in the occupied territories and in Israel during the same period.”

The report mentioned the demolition of 575 Palestinian homes since the beginning of the year: 85 in areas under Palestinian Authority control, 239 in Area C and 251 in East Jerusalem.

The Oslo Accords (1993) classified the lands of the West Bank into 3 zones: “A” fully under the control of the Palestinian authority, “B” is securely under Israeli control, but civilly and administratively under Palestinian control, while that Area “C” is under Israeli security, civilian, and administrative control, and it constitutes regarding 60% of the area of ​​the West Bank.
