“UN Plans to Leave Afghanistan as Taliban Ban Women from Working in Offices”

Kabul: It is reported that the United Nations (UN) is planning to stop its activities in Afghanistan. The move comes in protest at the Taliban regime’s ban on women from working in UN offices in the country. The UN is negotiating with Taliban sources to allow women to work. If this does not work, the UN may leave Afghanistan next month.

U.N. Development Program Administrator Achin Steiner stated that deviations from the basic principles of human rights cannot be accepted.

Following the Taliban’s order banning women, the U.N. said this month that all employees in Afghanistan should not report to the office until further notice. The Taliban, which came to power after the withdrawal of the American army in August 2021, denied education to women and banned them from working places, gyms and parks. 600 women are working for the UN in Afghanistan. The UN described the decision to leave Afghanistan as “heartbreaking”.
